Every so often, Rolls-Royce will put out some special edition with an interior made of unicorn leather and wood harvested from trees that only grow on the moon. It’s easy to look at these as celebrations of excess, but if you want real excess, you have to look to the 2014 Bentley Continental GT3-R. You see, however expensive Rolls makes a given one-off special edition, it’s still being used for its intended purpose: making the super rich super comfortable. But with the GT3-R, Bentley has taken a giant car, one that is completely impractical as a growling, track-focused speed machine, and turned it into just that.
Nothing about this car makes sense, but that is what is so gloriously enjoyable about it. As you will see in the video, Bentley has actually made this eye-wateringly expensive lump of insane work. It handles beautifully, sounds like a race car and really is incredibly fast. At some point, the reviewer just starts laughing at the fact that this car exists at all. The video goes into a good deal of detail about the car and why it’s so nuts too, and it’s definitely worth watching all of it.
