Launched at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, the 2017 Bentley Bentayga finally claimed its place at the top of the SUV kingdom as the fastest, most luxurious, and most expensive family hauler yet.
But the Brits won’t stop there.
Although it’s not yet confirmed, a hotter, more powerful version of the Bentayga may also be in the works. Likely to carry the Speed moniker, the beefed-up Bentayga will probably become the world’s first 200-mph SUV, a feature the brand wasn’t able to achieve with the standard model, reportedly due to "the wide safety margins the company chooses for its tires."
“But that is not to say there will not be other variants in the future,” Bentley engineering boss Rolf Frech told Autocar, hinting that a faster, more powerful model is underway.
Frech’s statement was backed by Volkswagen Group’s Fritz Eichler, who admitted that the Bentayga’s W-12 engine is only at the "beginning of its potential," with "a lot more to come."
There’s no word as to when the Bentayga Speed will arrive, but a 2017 launch for the 2018 model year is likely given Bentley is also planning diesel and hybrid versions of the SUV.
