In anticipation of a full reveal at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Honda has released a few specs and the first official photos and of its 2015 Civic Type R hot hatchback. Featuring extensive aerodynamic enhancements that offer high-speed stability and abundant downforce, the sport compact will reach a top speed of 167 mph, a feat Honda claims is “unrivalled amongst its front wheel-drive competitors.”
With aero development from both computer simulations and the wind tunnel, the new Type R will come with a flat underside, rear diffuser, extended front splitter, deep side skirts, and a large rear spoiler to help keep it planted at speed.
Motive power is derived from 2.0-liter direct injection VTEC TURBO engine. Total output is rumored to be around 300 horsepower.
The new Type R will incorporate high-performance brakes from Brembo, with 13.8-inch rotors and four-piston calipers. New 19-inch alloy wheels are in place to fit the large stoppers.
Keeping the engine cool are enlarged upper and lower grilles in the front bumper, plus vents on the front quarter panels.
Expect a full reveal in March, when the new Type R will break cover dressed in iconic Championship White paint.
