BMW M240i


Anyone who decides to climb the BMW 2 Series model ladder will eventually reach the M235i. Essentially the penultimate step before the top dog M2, the M235i offers copious sporting cues and performance-oriented hardware, but doesn’t quite bash the sensibilities (or bank account) like its hardcore sibling. Now at the halfway mark in its lifecycle, the M235i is due for a refresh for the 2017 model year, and a launch is expected some time in 2016. Thanks to an Internet leak, we have a rough idea what the Bavarians are cooking up. First and foremost, the M235i nomenclature will be dropped in favor of a new M240i designation, while a restyled look, new infotainment tech, and most importantly, extra ponies round out the update.

Much of that speculation stems from the aforementioned leak, which went online at BMW enthusiast forum BimmerPost.com, where user “ynguldyn” dropped the insider knowledge on the upcoming two-door. Read on for my speculative review.

Updated 05/16/2016: A new report indicates that the M240i, in both coupe and convertible version will be unveiled later this summer. While the U.S.A. will only get the M240i version, in Europe BMW will also offer a M140i hatchback version.
