2017 GMC Acadia

GMC has released a teaser image of the 2017 Acadia ahead of its official debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Now much can be gleaned from the blacked out image, beyond the vastly improved taillights and GMC’s continued use of chrome, but we know the 2017 model will be an all-new vehicle.

The three-row crossover debuted for the 2007 model year along side its Lambda platform cousins, the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, and Saturn Outlook. Though the Saturn is long dead, the Enclave and Traverse soldier on as they have since their debuts.

The 10-year run for the Lambda trio has seen several mild updated, keeping each design somewhat fresh and competitive. The Acadia got its latest refresh in 2013 with a welcomed new face and rear end. The sole powertrain has been the 3.6-liter V-6 mounted transversely to a six-speed automatic transmission that powers either the front wheels or all four wheels on AWD models. Output has moderately climbed from 275 horsepower to 281 horses. Opting for the Denali version pumps power to 288 hoses thanks to the dual exhaust.

Though unconfirmed, the 3.6-liter V-6 and AWD option is likely to carry over onto the new 2017 Acadia. GMC could update the six-speed auto with more gears, helping bump fuel economy. Also expect the exterior to have a lower coefficient of drag, helping the big crossover slip through the air. Of course, GMC will continue offering the Denali trim, as it accounts for a large portion of Acadia sales.
