It’s not often that we here at TopSpeed get a video as pure as this one. Press play, and you won’t get some smarmy host cracking jokes or a drawn-out history lesson, or fact-free opinion making. In fact, there’s no dialogue whatsoever, apart from a delightful mechanical soliloquy. All you get is three and half minutes of footage presenting the new McLaren 570S as it’s driven at the limit of grip, tires howling, twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8 wailing.
Details on the various venues used are scarce, but include a desert race track and snowy cold weather testing. You’ll see the new sports car from shots from inside the cabin, high-speed cornering, and powder-chucking drifts, all with an internal-combustion soundtrack.
This is the kind of video I’d like to see more of. All too often, there’s something getting in the way of the car, be it the music or banter or a shot of two haggard automotive journalists hashing out what the marque’s “true” intentions were (pro tip: it was to sell cars). By contrast, this video is like hopping in your chariot, turning the ignition, and heading out to your favorite twisty bit of abandoned tarmac. It’s simple and effective.
