On a normal track day, a high percentage of sports cars going head-to-head with a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 would likely have no chance, especially if the Corvette in question is equipped with the Z07 Package and grippy Michelin Sport Cup 2 high-performance tires. Unfortunately for his bragging rights but luckily for us, the footage above doesn’t depict the average track day for this Corvette Z06 owner, as he was accompanied and then downright obliterated by a mighty McLaren P1 on the Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas.
It is worth mentioning that the video was shot courtesy of the Performance Data Recorder found on the Z06, which overlays the engine rpm, acceleration and braking, G-forces, steering angle, gear position, speed, lap times and a map of the track being driven on top of the video. Thanks to that helpful data we can estimate that the McLaren P1 goes to plaid on the straights, since it pretty much leaves the Corvette in the dust on every occasion.
On the other hand, the McLaren P1 driver may be either inexperienced, unfamiliar with the Circuit of the Americas or simply overly protective of his car. I say this because the Z06 easily keeps up with the P1 in the corners and the British hypercar seems to brake way too early. Either way, the resulting footage is pretty enjoyable, to say the least, even if it isn’t a race per se.
