After much teasing and prodding, Indian Motorcycle has finally pulled the covers off of the Chief Dark Horse cruiser. I have to say that while I expected something a little more, I was left pretty impressed with it anyway.
This isn’t a-jumping-on-both-sides-of-the-fence thing. This is me saying that I like the Dark Chief Dark Horse, even if it still fell a little short of my expectations. First of all, the all-black look is sexy as heck and the semi-gloss finish even adds to its stylistic touch.
The overall look of the Chief Dark Horse gets high marks from me, as it should because it’s got a dramatic overall vibe that pays homage to Indian’s unmistakable line of Chief cruisers.
On the flip side, I actually thought that Indian would use a tuned version of its Thunder Stroke III engine. It wasn’t too much to ask to begin with and a more powerful Chief Dark Horse would really set it apart from the rest of the Chief lineup.
Thankfully, Indian did something to address that in a round-a-bout kind of way. The engine’s the same, but the bike is lighter than any Chief bicycle in the lineup. That’s a good trade-off in my opinion and more importantly, it really does make the Chief Dark Horse a supremely attractive all-road cruiser.
