Ford GT Configurator Launched

Unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in prototype form, the second-generation Ford GT is about to go on sale for the 2017 model year. The Blue Oval has just made another step toward launching its first supercar in more than a decade by firing up the GT’s online configurator. So, if you already placed a preorder or have the rumored $400,000 required to take one home, you can now browse between a number of options and customize Ford’s latest supercar.

The configurator still is still missing some of the features that will be available with the new GT, but it enables you to browse through the exterior colors, racing stripe packages, wheel options, and upholstery alternatives. What’s more, the online tool reveals that the 2017 Ford GT will receive not one, but two special-edition models. Ford doesn’t provide any details whatsoever, but given that the company is celebrating 100 years since it won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time, we expect at least one of them to have something to do with the iconic race. Most likely it will be a special livery, but we won’t know for sure until Ford spills the beans.

As a brief reminder, the new GT is powered by a 3.5-liter, EcoBoost V-6 mounted behind the seats. The turbocharged mill is based on a racing engine Ford used in its IMSA Daytona prototype and it is estimated to generate more than 600 horsepower. All that oomph will travel to the rear wheels through a seven-speed, dual-clutch transaxle. Production will be limited to only about 250 units per year according to Ford Performance boss Dave Pericak.

You can configure the Ford GT of your dreams here or you can continue reading to find out more about the options this supercar will carry.
