Chevy has unveiled the second-generation Cruze compact sedan, and it brings a more powerful turbocharged engine, a larger, redesigned exterior, higher efficiency, and a lighter, more rigid platform. Inside is a bevy of tech features, plus a resized and redesigned layout.
All in all, it’s a solid update in a time when crossovers seem to reign supreme, giving hope to those who like their cars without the pseudo-SUV proportions.
The numbers do well to back the Cruze’s popularity – in 2014, total Cruze sales in the U.S. rang to the tune of 273,060, a 10 percent increase over 2013. In fact, the Cruze is Chevy’s best-selling car around the world, moving a total of 3.5 million units since it went on sale in 2008. It’s also decidedly aimed at younger buyers, currently boasting as the segment’s second-best selling vehicle for customers under the age of 25.
Chevy hopes the latest iteration of the Cruze will capitalize on the first-gen’s successes and carry forward with even higher sales numbers. Read on to see how exactly the bow tie plans to do that.
