Chevrolet has not been shy about releasing special edition models for the Silverado pickup truck. The latest in the long line is the Silverado Rally Edition. But unlike the other special editions, this truck actually gets a unique body panel – more specifically a power dome hood. A matte black graphics package and large wheels further separate the Rally Edition from the standard Silverado.
“We introduced several special editions in 2015 – each combining equipment and appearance packages designed for specific enthusiasts in mind,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet truck marketing director. “They clearly resonated with buyers, selling in one-third the time – and attracting new, younger, and more affluent buyers to the brand – than the industry average.”
Piszar went on to say Chevy truck sales jumped by 27 percent in 2015, which he says is double the sales increase seen in the overall U.S. truck market. “As we expand our lineup of special editions for 2016, we expect to continue that momentum,” he said.
Helping fuel the hype surrounding the Silverado special editions’ momentum is a fan-centered event happening at the Texas Motor Speedway on April 9, 2016. Headlining the event are Chevy’s NASCAR team drivers, which include Dale Earnhardt Jr., Austin Dillon, Kyle Larson, and Kasey Kahne.
Each driver will be “campaigning” for their favorite Silverado special edition in a Twitter competition. Earnhardt will represent the new Rally Edition, Dillon will hype the Realtree Edition, Larson will back the Silverado 1500 Midnight Edition, and Kahne will represent the Silverado 2500 Midnight Edition.
All four trucks will then be on display at the Duck Commander 500 race on Sunday, April 10. Chevy will also have a fleet of Silverado pickups present for the on-track driver-introduction parade before the race.
