Mazda Confirms New Model For New York Auto Show; Could Be The Hard-Top Miata

The New York Auto Show is less than two weeks away, and manufacturers are already trying to get our attention. The most recent example is Mazda and its invitation to the show that clearly expresses the manufacturer’s intent to “blow the lid off at the New York Auto Show.” Along with that, the invitation also claims that Mazda is planning to release something new at the show; the question is: what?

Well, at this point, nobody outside of Mazda knows for sure, but some sources are indicating that it will be a hard-top version of the Mazda MX-5 Miata. That is all speculation at this point, but with the most recent generation debuting just a year ago, it is time for the hard top to hit the scene. If it doesn’t turn out to be a hard-top MX-5, it will be called the MX-5 Roadster Coupe and will feature a folding roof that is lighter and more compact than that of the previous generation.

If our sources are correct, the hard-top MX-5 is a big deal for Mazda. The previous generation hard top was very successful and outsold the soft top by a huge margin in the U.K. Then again; it could be that this “world premiere” that will “blow the lid” off the show is going to be an all-new model altogether. With only a couple weeks left until the show, we won’t have to wait for long. Stay tuned for updates as we get closer to the opening day of the New York Auto show.
