Chevrolet has released three new additions to its “Midnight Edition” lineup for 2016, including the Colorado Z71, Silverado Z71, and this, the Silverado 2500 HD Z71. Like the Colorado and Silverado 1500, the Silverado 2500 HD gets an all-black, monochromatic look to match its off-road abilities provided by the Z71 package. It continues to offer all the same equipment and features found on the 2500 HD Z71, along with carryover drivetrain options.
Of the three Chevy trucks, the Silverado 2500 HD is the right choice for those who haul or tow heavy loads and need the extra capability the Chevy HD line provides. This includes stiffer springs front and rear, shorter gear ratios, beefy transmission options, and the choice between a 6.0-liter gasoline V-8 and the venerable 6.6-liter Duramax V-8 turbodiesel. The 2500 HD rides on a fully boxed, hydroformed frame constructed from high-strength steel.
Unlike the Colorado, the Silverado’s Z71 package is an option package rather than a trim level, meaning it can be had with a variety of trim levels. Opt for the Midnight Edition, however, and you’re limited to the mid-grade LT trim. That’s not a disadvantage, however, as the LT offers plenty of amenities and interior features.
