Chevrolet is no stranger to special editions. It seems like nearly every one of its models can be had with some sort of special option package or unique edition. The tradition continues at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show as Chevy debuts the 2016 Colorado Z71 Midnight Edition.
Chevrolet actually debuted a Midnight Edition for the 2016 Colorado back in August of 2015, though it was limited to the LT trim levels. Now customers can choose the Midnight Edition on their Z71-trimmed Colorado – a truck that is built for off-roading.
Like the “standard” Midnight Edition, the Colorado Z71 Midnight Edition comes with blacked-out everything. Save for the headlights, fog lights, and a handful of chrome accents, the truck is black. In keeping with its Z71 trim, the 17-inch, five-spoke wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires for all-terrain traction. The Eaton G80 locking rear differential is standard while 4WD is optional. Tow hooks and skid plates finish off the Z71’s rugged image.
The Z71 Colorado is available with either the 3.6-liter V-6 or the 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder turbodiesel. Both engines are unchanged by addition of the Midnight Edition package, and come mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
