In recent years, Mazda has redesigned nearly its entire lineup of vehicles, giving them a fresh look through the KODO design language, and a range of fuel-efficient SkyActiv engines. However, the CX-9 SUV has soldiered on virtually unchanged since 2006, remaining the only survivor of Mazda’s partnership with Ford. That may change soon, as Mazda has just announced it will introduce a new concept car at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show that looks a lot like a full-size SUV.
Dubbed Koeru, which is Japanese for "exceed" or "go beyond," the concept is described as the brand’s "latest venture into the growing crossover SUV market, where the company is again looking to surpass existing standards and raise the bar for performance, efficiency and overall value." Unfortunately, no other details are given save for the fact that it will feature an evolution of the KODO - Soul of Motion design, but the early rendering that comes with the brief press release depicts a crossover that’s significantly bigger than the 2016 Mazda CX-5. With the unsuccessful CX-7 having been discontinued in 2012, this concept can only preview the second-generation CX-9.
Keep reading to find out more about it and stay tuned for more details on September 15th as the Frankfurt Motor Show opens its doors.
