The Upcoming Jaguar F-Type SVR Could Be AWD


The fact that Jaguar is already working on a hardcore, SVR-badged version of the F-Type is no longer a secret, but the details surrounding this beefed-up two-seater are still scant. As the Brits continue to test F-Types equipped with revised bumpers, pop-up spoilers, and big ceramic brake discs in Europe, the folks over at Car Magazine report that the SVR will feature an all-wheel-drive system as standard.

Although the British outlet doesn’t quote a source for its report, it does claim that Jaguar wants to position the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR against the 2016 Porsche 911 Turbo and argues that "...the blown, all-wheel drive 911 outsells the rear-drive GT3 by at least four to one." Also, because it doesn’t have a motorsport program, Jaguar reportedly has no reason to sell its most powerful sports car with a rear-wheel-drive layout.

Moreover, a 600-horspeower F-Type would be better of with an AWD system to keep the extra power and torque in check.

Car also suggests that the F-Type SVR will sport several aero features seen on the limited-edition 2015 Jaguar Project 7, including a carbon-fiber rear diffuser. Larger intakes for the front bumper are also on the table to help feed more air to the supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 powerplant.
