Even though Subaru left the WRC at the end of 2008, the six-star brand is definitely staying busy when it comes to the slidey stuff. In fact, you can find Subarus competing in local and national rally competitions the world over, including a very strong presence here in the U.S.
Just take a look at the Red Bull Global Rallycross and X Games Rallycross. Successful iterations of Subaru’s legendary WRX rally fighter have been running in these series since their inceptions, and so far, show no sign of drawing down.
As such, Subaru Rally Team USA (SRT USA) is unveiling its new 2015 WRX STI rallycross car, set to make its world debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show. Dubbed the VT15x, this AWD monster was built for competition in both the GRC and X Games, and is the culmination of years of secret development.
Built by technical partner Vermont SportsCar, the VT15x is the third version of an STI-based competitor for Subaru in four years. “We made huge strides in durability and competitiveness last season,” stated Vermont SportsCar Team Principal Lance Smith. “The VT15x is almost entirely new technology. This car is a revolution, not just an evolution."
