Mercedes Benz SL-Class

The SL-Class is one of the most iconic namplates in Mercedes’ storied history, as it dates all the way back to the legendary 300SL that ebuted in 1954. The second, third and fourth generations debuted in 1963, 1972 and 1989, respectively, and all brought significant changes. The fifth-gen SL launched in 2003, and Mercedes gave it a significant facelift in 2008. Finally in 2012 the sixth-generation SL debuted at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, but it quickly became evident that it needed a facelift to help separate it from the cheaper SLK. This leads us to the facelifted version of the SL that is set to launch in time for the 2016 model year in the U.S.

Our spy photographers managed to snag up a few pictures of a mule used to test new technology in the upcoming SL-Class facelift. Though the images don’t show much, other than taped-in S-Class headlights, there are plenty of rumors and speculation surrounding this facelift.

Check out some of our finding and some rumors on the upcoming SL-Class after the jump.
