Not entirely unexpected, Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers officially confirmed that the not-yet-on-the-market 2016 AMG GT will also come in a Black Series and even a GT3-inspired variant sometime in the future. Moers confirmed what everyone was already guessing to Autocar during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, also mentioning that the most hardcore version "won’t be here soon, because Black Series cars tend to come towards the end of a car’s production cycle, but an AMG GT Black is a car we must do."
In other words, we shouldn’t expect a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series sooner than 2018, but that doesn’t mean that other GT models won’t arrive until then, with a track-ready variant in the style of the Porsche 911 GT3 to be launched in the upcoming years. Featuring less weight and more power, the model would also offer a more austere interior but much better circuit-attacking credentials, especially since Mercedes-AMG currently employs the engineer who was in charge of the Porsche 911’s handling capabilities. According to Tobias Moers, the car’s main targets "should be the power-to-weight ratio, drivability, lap time and tremendous feel."
Although not officially confirmed, the Mercedes-AMG GT family may also get a roadster variant sometime in the future, but that decision will be heavily inflenced by the board of directors at Mercedes-Benz, as such a car would probably cannibalize the SL63 AMG in terms of sales. Either way, be certain that the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S only represent the beginning, with at least two other variants being already signed off from the big guys.
