It was December 2013 when Ford unveiled the highly-anticipated 2015 Mustang. The redesigned pony arrive with massive improvements over its predecessor, including an independent rear suspension, a revised interior, retuned engines and a brand-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-banger. Less than a year has passed since then, and the sixth-generation Mustang received a much-needed high-performance version to replace last year’s Shelby-badged model. With the ink still wet on our Shelby GT350 review, a new report claims the Blue Oval has yet another muscle car to unveil over the next few months. According to Road & Track, there’s a GT350R underway, and it may arrive as soon as the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in January. Is this great news or what?
Although the details are still under wraps, there’s a lot to get excited about, as R&T tells us to look at the relationship between the old Mustang Boss 302 and the faster Boss 302 Laguna Seca model to get an idea of what the GT350R will be able to do. This means we’re about to see a lighter, quicker and more track-focused Mustang break cover in Motor City. January can’t come soon enough!
Updated 01/05/2015: Since the 2015 Detroit Auto Show is only one week away, so we decided to create a rendering of the future Mustang Shelby GT350R that we expect to see at the show. Check it out after the jump.
