While we’re busy speculating on what the next-generation Nissan GT-R will bring to the supercar table, the Japanese automaker is apparently working on simpler things. According to a bunch of spy shots we just received in our inbox, Nissan is readying one final update for the current GT-R, meaning the supercar we’re already familiar with will live on for the 2016 model year as well.
A partly camouflaged GT-R that was spotted in Germany in October 2014 suggests that Nissan is readying a mild facelift for its halo car. The test vehicle appears to be a standard 2014 model year GT-R, but its camouflaged nose hides a handful of visual and aerodynamic updates. Although the front fascia seems largely unchanged, a closer look reveals the bumper sports revised grille openings with new aerodynamic elements. Both the upper and lower dams feature two extra fins that are likely to improve air flow to the engine and front brakes.
What’s more, the apron also appears to include newly designed winglets at each corner, hinting Nissan is aiming to improve the current GT-R’s performance before bidding it fairwell. New aerodynamics could also mean the Japanese are updating the 3.8-liter V-6 engine for the first time in four years. We expect the tweaked unit to deliver an extra five to ten horses for a final output of 550 to 555 horsepower. The 2015 model year GT-R comes with 545 ponies on tap.
