Audi has something special planned for October 19, 2015 and it involves showcasing what an Audi RS7 Sportback is capable of without a driver behind its wheel. Yep, the world of autonomous driving is poised to take a huge leap forward when Audi demonstrates the world’s “sportiest piloted driving car” as it takes a hot lap around the Hockenheim race track in the season finale of the German Touring Car Championship (DTM).
Details about the RS7 Piloted Driving Concept are understandably being kept under wraps, but from the little Audi has teased about the concept, it should be one of the most technologically advanced models the company has ever created. The fact that it’s going to be driverless when it takes the hot lap is just one of the many astounding things about it.
It’s also being touted as a full-fledged race car that can handle the rigors of a track like Hockenheim. At full speed, no less. Initial testing has already revealed that the RS7 Piloted Driving Concept can reach up to a speed of 149.1 mph while performing a complete lap in just over two minutes. That’s incredible for a car with a driver at the helm, much less a car without one. So if you’re a fan of autonomous driving, you’re not going to want to miss this demonstration. Audi will broadcast the RS7 Piloted Driving Concept’s performance live on October 19 starting at 12:45 p.m local German time only on Audi MediaTV.
