Having already launched the redesigned 2016 Audi Q7, 2016 Audi A4, and 2016 Audi R8, Audi has had quite a busy 2015 so far. And with so many new prototypes already on public roads, including the 2017 Audi Q5, 2016 Audi Q1, and the 2017 Audi A4 Allroad, Ingolstadt is likely to unveil many new products over the next 12 months. Set to arrive in U.S. dealerships for the 2018 model year, the S5 isn’t one of them, but the test car our paparazzi spotted in the wild recently confirm development is well underway.
The redesigned S5 will arrive to replace the first-generation model, which was introduced in 2007 for the 2018 model year. Initially powered by a 4.2-liter V-8 engine, the coupe received a supercharged, 3.0-liter V-6 with the 2012 facelift. The V-6 mill soldiered on unchanged until 2015, motivating not only the coupe, but the convertible and five-door Sportback models since 2009 as well. It’s not year clear whether the updated S5 Sportback will come to the U.S. in the future, but the S5 coupe and cabriolet are definitely crossing the pond for 2018.
Official details are obviously scarce right now, but the camouflaged prototype seen testing in Europe carries many hints as to what we will find in showrooms. Keep reading for the full rundown.
