It’s been only two years since the McLaren P1 was launched as the long-awaited successor to the iconic F1, and the nameplate is already rumored to include a second road-going model. Following the introduction of the track-only 2016 P1 GTR, the Brits are reportedly working on a street-legal version of the race car. Though not yet confirmed by McLaren, a race-bred supercar more powerful than the current P1 would make sense, especially if released in very limited numbers.
Already one of the most exclusive manufacturers, McLaren is waging war against Ferrari on several fronts, more so since it created a customer racing program for the GTR. A new, more powerful P1 that’s as capable as a race car but streetable at the same time would help cement McLaren’s reputation as a leading supercar breeder.
That said, I used the very little info found in the rumor mill, the obvious facts, and McLaren’s past history with expanding vehicle lineups to put together this speculative review that may shed some light on things to come.
