Next-Gen Hyundai Genesis Coupe may get a Twin-Turbo V-6

The next-generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe remains a bit of a mystery to date, but there have been plenty of rumors swirling around. One such rumor is a next-generation 3.3-liter engine with a pair of turbochargers strapped to it. Until now, this has remained unconfirmed, but a new report from The Korean Car Blog claims that it has proof of the engine’s existence.

The site received images from Blood Type Racing, which happened to be at the Chicago Auto Show displaying its own Genesis Coupe BTR Edition, and it was privy to the new 3.3-liter engine and its data. There is no mention of how Blood Type Racing got this information and how this engine went unseen at the Chicago Auto Show, but we’ll entertain the idea.

That gives the new 3.3-liter twin-turbo engine 27 more ponies than the current 3.8-liter and an extra 84 pound-feet of torque. This makes me – and the Korean Car Blog – wonder what Hyundai will do with the 3.8-liter engine now. Will it become the base engine or will Hyundai position the 3.3-liter twin-turbo as the base engine and add the Tau V-8 as an option?
